CATFILTER™ is a ceramic filter designed for the filtration of Iron, Steel, Bronze and Copper-alloys.

The unique hybrid design of the CATFILTER™ combines the strength and precision of the outer layers with the filtration efficiency of the inner ceramic matrix. The result is a filter with unparalleled performance and casting size capability.

This hybrid design combines the advantages of foam filters and pressed filters but eliminates many the negative aspects of both technologies. The filter is made up of three distinct layers but is sintered together to form one homogenous unit.

Constructed using highly refractory material including fused zirconiamullite and high-purity alumina bonded by graphitised carbon, this combination provides excellent thermo mechanical properties and outstanding stability up to 1800°C.

Our manufacturing process allows for unrivalled possibilities of size, geometry, hole size and distribution.

For example:
Ferrous foundries tend to use ceramic gating tubes/systems when producing larger castings. Typically a filter of 150mm to 200mm can be situated inline using a ceramic filter print - a simple cone shape going from the diameter of the runner opening, out to accommodate the filter and returning back to the runner diameter. However, the demand to make the filter prints ‘compact’ is not conducive to a uniform flow of metal across the face of the filter, i.e. the bulk of the flow goes through the central area of the filter and the outer areas are ‘dead’.

With CATFILTER™ we have ‘graded hole sizing’ availablei.e. The holes in the central area are slightly smaller than those toward the outer edges, helping to equalise metal flow across the entire filter face leading to more efficient filtration and up to 30% higher capacity.

This technology combined with the intrinsic higher strength of the CATFILTER™ allows us to make filters up to and beyond 300mm.
